Hand values
- Number cards 2–10 are worth their face value.
- Jack, Queen and King are each worth 10.
- An Ace counts as 11 unless that would push the hand past 21, in which case it counts as 1. A hand using an Ace as 11 is called soft.
- Going over 21 is a bust and loses at once, even if the dealer later busts too.
The dealer’s fixed rule
The house draws while its total is 16 or lower and stands on every 17 or higher — including soft 17. It never makes a choice of its own.
When the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace or worth 10, it checks the hole card for blackjack before you act. If it has one, the hand ends immediately.
You may double down on your first two cards: the stake doubles, you receive exactly one more card, and you stand. Splitting and insurance are not offered.
